Week 5

Kingfishers have completed their assessments this week - well  done for the hard work that went into this.

We used our key text, Mill Girl, as the basis for some research into Manchester’s proud history of standing up for what is right. The children had passionate views of their own when they wrote slogans for the banners that might have been waved by the Chartists in the “Plug plot” strikes in 1842.  Our next piece of writing will be a persuasive letter to try to force changes to working conditions in the mills.

In maths we have moved on to the topic of position and direction, using co-ordinances in all four quadrants.

Our work in RE and PSHE complement our learning in history. We have looked further at what we really mean by a perfect world, how different cultures affect these expectations and how we might empathise with and advocate for those who are not treated equally or fairly in our world,
