Week 5

Our quality text, Journey by Aaron Beckett, has provided us with a fabulous framework to develop our grammar, punctuation and vocabulary.

The children’s hard work drafting, reviewing and editing has resulted in some fabulous writing that they should be proud of.

“Put your hand up if you are enjoying reading your book.” What a fantastic response!

It’s great to hear a buzz around what book to read next.

Have you heard of Sarah Forbes Bonetta? We had to establish if this little African girl had really been given as a gift to Queen Victoria.

Primary sources from the Royal Navy records, Queen Victoria’s journal and photographs from the National Portrait Gallery gave us the answer.

In our Jigsaw PSHE lessons we’ve been considering the universal rights for all children and whether they are always upheld. We traded our joy of eating chocolate with the dilemma of whether it was just for children to be harvesting the cocoa beans.

We have considered the difference between our ‘wants and needs’ and how they may differ with children in other communities. In Maslow’s hierarchy of needs we wondered where the children harvesting cocoa beans in Ghana would put themselves compared to ourselves.

It’s been another great week thanks to everyone in Eagles Class.
