Week 5

Hello Owls,

I hope you all had a great weekend celebrating VE Day with your household. It was a great chance for us to stop and think about all our service men and women, past and present, who have done so much for us. In a time that we may be finding tricky, it is nice to think about what we are thankful for. It would be great if you could come up with 6 things you are grateful for and put them into a gratitude list. I have thought about mine this weekend and here it is.

Miss Ward’s Gratitude List

  • My home
  • Our school
  • Family/ Friends
  • Fresh air
  • Books
  • Music

It was lovely to see how you have been spending your time over the weeks, some of which are on our Week 4 page. I hope you all have a fabulous week and can send me updates on what you’ve been doing to owls@altrinchamceprimaryschool.co.uk.

Keep a growth mindset.

All my best,

Miss Ward

What have the Owls been up to this week?

Zarnib, you have been busy. Thank you for my email, it's great to see all the work you have been doing.

What a fabulous rainbow animal Sophia!

Great research Harry. I am so glad you've enjoyed this topic and your effort shows in your work.

Well done Lyla. Your poster is fantastic and it's great that Elsie got involved.

Super work Evan. You have helped me learn something new.

What a fabulous idea Esme!
If you want to give this a go and send it to me I'd love to see them.
There's also a website you can make a flipbook animation at https://flipanim.com/

Maths
This week, you can access BBC Bitesize to support your daily lessons. White Rose are continuing to provide videos, however they are not providing the worksheets to support the lessons. I have uploaded them below for you to access instead. The answers for each lesson can also be found here.

Phonics

Monday's lesson completes our -ed and -er focus. The remainder of the week looks at -eer and -ear
Spelling
Reading
Here are two reading activities you can do during the week.
Grammar
This week I would like you to have a look at using apostrophes for possession.
Writing

Answer the question, ‘Where on Earth is the Amazon Rainforest?’

This can be completed over the whole week or within two ‘lessons’.

Research and then make a poster.

You can include

  • How far away is the Amazon Rainforest?
  • How big is the Amazon Rainforest?
  • Which countries is it in?
  • Pictures/ photos/ maps

Try to use Google Earth/ Maps and any other virtual reality to explore this part of the world.

Writing challenge

Would you like to visit the Amazon Rainforest? Explain why.

Try to include:

  • contractions
  • coordinating conjunctions
  • Phonics focus words from this week
Science
Here is a presentation about plants we eat, along with a video and a worksheet. Our presentation is split into three parts because the website wouldn't let us put it up as one file.
