Week 4

Well done for another awesome week Robins!

If you have not been in touch yet, please could you send me a quick update on what you have been up to.

During this time, nothing is more important than your child’s emotional wellbeing. Spending time together playing games, daily exercise as a family, reading favourite stories, making things, building dens and playing in the garden - for those fortunate enough to have one - are valuable activities and should be a key part of any timetable.

I bought this craft kit at the start of school closures to remind me of my great class! Unbelievably, I’ve not had chance to start it yet! I’m going to set myself the challenge to make this felt red robin. I’ll share my finished robin next week on our class page. I’ve also been really lucky to have a friendly robin visiting my garden everyday. Look out for robins out and about near you. If you see one, maybe draw me a picture.

Feel free to complete as many activities as you need.

Remember, if you need any help then please contact me  via our class email.

Maths

This week will be the last week in which White Rose will upload all resources to the site for parents to use. During this week you may want to familiarise yourself with the daily lessons provided by BBC Bitesize, as they will be providing lessons that fit with the White Rose lessons.

  • Hit the button Maths game to consolidate times tables and number bond

Year One Maths

The lessons are all available on the White Rose Maths website at www.whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/

Lesson 1 is part-whole relationships number bonds.

Year Two Maths

This week you will be looking at fact families and adding ones, this will be a recap for children so their understanding may be fluent already.

www.whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-2/

From next week White Rose maths will be changing what can be accessed free from home learning.  Many of the resources they have been sharing previously came at a cost to schools.  To remain fair to these schools they have opted to revert the worksheets to be available only to schools who have been paying the premium.  The good news is that we have always been a premium paying school and all the resources will still be available.  From next week worksheets will have to be downloaded from the schools website and not the White Rose website.  White Rose have been experiencing unprecedented traffic on their website this week and have been having delays in getting all their resources available, please bear with us from next week as we try and download all the relevant worksheets and resources needed.

Year One Phonics

This weeks phonics focus is the phoneme /air/ spelt with the vowel trigraphs 'air' and 'are'.

Year Two Phonics

Monday’s lesson completes the focus of ‘al’ and ‘il’ say /l/. while the remainder of the week’s focus is adding -ed and -er to words ending in 'e'.

For phonics this week you can also access the espresso website.

Please e-mail  for the log in and password as we are not allowed to share it on a public website. robins@altrinchamceprimary.co.uk

The children are very familiar with this website as it is something we use regularly in class.

Year One Spelling

This week’s spellings are words with the ‘air’ and ‘are’ spelling.  Watch the PowerPoint and then complete the word search activity sheet.

Year Two Spelling

This week, we are looking at how to use an apostrophe to show missing letters in a word. I have uploaded a folder with a variety of activities that can support the learning of the spellings, but they are not mandatory.

Reading

This week we are celebrating the 75th anniversary of VE Day. Here is a comprehension activity all about VE Day. Remember to pick one chilli challenge to complete.

Writing

Keeping with our VE Day theme, I would like you to design a medal for Colonel Tom Moore. If you don't already know who he is you might want to do a bit of research first. Alongside your medal design, it would be great if you could include a thank you note to the Colonel. I have included the medal template, some information about 'Captain' Tom Moore (you don't need to complete the comprehension section), a PowerPoint all about VE Day, and a glider activity.

Science

This week I would like you to look at the life cycle of a plant. I have included a PowerPoint and two activities.

You could also give this a go.

Click the link to see the vegetables you can regrow by just using the bits you don’t want. Observe what happens to your scraps over the next couple of weeks, take photos and make notes and report back, telling me what you have found.

R.E.

Follow the link to see this week's R.E. activities.

Rainbow Challenge

Have a go at this week's challenge.
