Week 3

Kingfishers have been working really hard on their narrative texts linked to “Journey” by Aaron Becker. This is a beautiful and absorbing picture book which has inspired some fantastic creative writing. Our particular focus this week has been description, building on our grammar bursts about noun phrases.  Ask your child if they can tell you different ways to expand a noun.  We have also developed our understanding and skills in proofreading and editing, and how these two important stages in writing differ.

The children have been evaluating primary evidence about Queen Victoria in history,  beginning to form their own impressions.  We are learning to read critically; we detected some bias in the Manchester Guardian’s obituary supplement, published in January 1901.

We began to piece our geography work together with our understanding of history thus week when we added some Victorian transport developments to our timeline.  Next week, we are going into the Dragons’ Den to pitch some Victorian innovations!
