Week 2
It’s been fantastic for us all to be back in school this week; to enjoy each other’s company and to crack on with all the exciting learning and tasks as a whole group.
After reading Mill Girl by Sue Reid at the end of each day during our week of on-line learning we began to write our own version of the diary by using the photograph below of Ancoats to set the scene for our readers.
Ancoats Manchester in 1870
We immersed ourselves in rich vocabulary to describe those dark, Manchester skies laden with thick, oily smog. We discussed the cramped houses, row after row after row and the monster itself - the mill - looming behind the enormous iron gates.
All the children embraced the writing challenge taking on the persona of Eliza or Elijah and should be really proud of the work they produced.
