Week 1

Hello Kingfishers, I hope you have enjoyed your half term holiday, even it was a bit different to usual.

This week I’m looking forward to welcoming some of our Year 6 children back into school. I have put dates on your activities this week so that you can see which ones we will be doing in the “bubbles” each day.

Please could Year 6 and Kingfisher Book Club do one more comprehension from your CGP books on Monday/Tuesday and can Year 6 do one more lesson from your grammar books - it would be helpful to review verb tenses and moods in preparation for this week’s writing task.

There are separate spelling lessons below for Years 5 and 6. Year 5 children are welcome to challenge themselves to try the Year 6 lesson if they wish.

We have some exciting history, geography and science work for you this week as well as RE activities and an art challenge, so keep scrolling to the bottom of the page so you don't miss anything!

RE activities

UKS2 (Y5/6)

This half term our theme will be Good News.  As you know, the New Testament begins with four Gospels, or “Good News” books, about the life and ministry of Jesus.

In his Gospel, John tells us several examples of Jesus teaching people using “I am” statements:

I am the bread of life

I am the true vine and my father is the gardener

I am the light of the world

I am the good shepherd

I am the way, the truth and the life

I am the resurrection and the life

Choose some of these images to illustrate and write an explanation of the metaphors.

Take time to reflect on how these images of Jesus help Christians to understand and develop a relationship with God.  You might like to write a personal reflection about how these images help you in your own thinking and belief.

History

This half term we will be learning about some Americans who made significant contributions to the Civil Rights Movement.

Week commencing 8th June

Assembly

You will be aware that people have taken to the streets in America and elsewhere in the world to protest after the death of George Floyd.

We are going to begin our history learning with a short video assembly where a woman explains how, as 10 year old girl, the memory of Dr Martin Luther King’s speech –‘I have a dream’- has stayed with her across the years…an inspiration to carry on striving for justice and freedom for everyone.

Please watch at https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00w4f4d

Or search for School Radio – Assemblies KS2, Dream on: Martin Luther King

The video lasts for 6 minutes.
