Autumn 2 Week 1
We started our new half term with a fantastic presentation about Black History. The children had the chance to dress up and dance as well as learning about some important black role models. In our English lesson we took the opportunity to explore further, discussing an extract from Michael Morpurgo's "Adolphus Tips". We are using a number of quality texts to enhance our history topic, reading extracts which might inspire the children to get the book and read the whole text . (Check out our Book Fair for lots of World War II based literature.)
Fractions will be the main focus for our maths work this half term. You can support your child's learning by helping them to apply their knowledge in everyday contexts, such as working out how to share food fairly between family members or comparing fractions related to sports eg match stats at the end of a football match.
Of course the nativity story and celebration of Christmas will be in focus, so we have started learning about the Christian concept of incarnation. Ask your children to tell you what they have learned about titles for Jesus from the traditional Christmas Bible reading from Isaiah chapter 9.
